'Tourism and Community Participation: a Gender Perspective' bridges a gap in knowledge by presenting an interpretative account of residents' gendered perceptions and experiences of tourism, policy and planning in the historic City of Bath, UK. It demonstrates how gender interacts with a range of factors including, socioeconomic status, place of residence, objective and subjective perceptions of power to have a bearing on residents' lived experiences in the city and the policy and planning system. This book argues the need for the development of new approaches and ways of thinking in tourism research in order to deepen understanding of how tourism affects different host community groups. It concludes by putting forward a number of recommendations including the need to develop new methodologies to help ensure that mechanisms for community participation can be made more inclusive. This book will inform and improve the understanding of students and research active academics engaged in community focused tourism research.
