The book , Vol I traces the Indian poetic tradition from the Therigatha nuns to Kamala Das.The brilliant poetry of Sarojini Naidu and Toru Dutt, the first Indian women poets to write in English, also reveal traces of confessionalism. It was observed that the writing liberates poets memory thus freeing her from anger, guilt and traumas. The same route was taken by Kamala Das and her confessional writings. Confessional and the pivotal role of memory which make Kamala Das represent her self moaning with suffering and anguish highlights Dass attempt to reconcile with her life and thus complete the process of confession.
