A partir de la observacin de la vida urbana de dos ciudades del nordeste argentino (Posadas y Resistencia), que han experimentado importantes y diferentes cambios en el marco de las reformas polticas neoliberales impulsadas por el gobierno argentino durante la dcada de 1990, la investigacin explora comparativamente las trasformaciones del espacio urbano ocurridas a fines del siglo XX y el rol simblicoideolgico desempeado por el espacio pblico. Ella trata de demostrar que el urbanismo, tanto como sistema simblico de creencias y valores que orienta las prcticas de la vida cotidiana, como sistema simblicoideolgico que conlleva relaciones de poder y dominacin, est profundamente implicado en la estructuracin cotidiana del orden social. Para ello busc desnaturalizar la nocin de espacio pblico y verlo tanto como un sistema simblico de creencias y valores estructurador de la vida social moderna, como un sistema ideolgico de poder y dominacin construido por el orden social moderno para la preservacin de sus desigualdades y jerarquas sociales.
