Diese oder hnliche Schlagzeilen sind fast tglich zu lesen oder zu hren. Besonders seit den jngsten Ereignissen um das Auffang bzw. Abschiebelager fr Flchtlinge und Migranten auf der kleinen italienischen Insel Lampedusa ist die Hysterie grer denn je. Nordafrikanische Migranten hatten das heillos berfllte Auffanglager im Februar 2009 aus Protest gegen ihre bevorstehende Abschiebung angezndet. Nimmt man diese Schlagzeilen beim Wort, so befindet Europa sich im Krieg. Der Gegner des mit Hilfe modernster berwachungstechnik und der gemeinsamen Grenzschutzagentur FRONTEX gefhrten Kampfes ist jedoch keine feindliche Streitmacht, sondern ein Heer von mittellosen, verzweifelten Afrikanern, das den Sturm auf die Festung Europa' wagt. Doch was steckt hinter dieser martialischen Rhetorik? Muss Europa wirklich aufrsten um einem immer greren Flchtlingsandrang standhalten zu knnen? Das italienische Innenministerium gibt an, dass im Jahre 2008 36 900 Bootsflchtlinge aus Afrika Italien erreicht haben, die meisten davon landeten auf der Insel Lampedusa. Dies ist eine nahezu Verdopplung zu 2007 als 20 500 Personen gezhlt wurden (vgl. Junge Welt 05.01.2009). Im ffentlichen Diskurs zu Migration aus Afrika in die EU spielen die Maghrebstaaten (Mauretanien, Marokko, Algerien, Tunesien, Libyen) als so genannte Transitlnder eine wichtige Rolle.
