Kommt ein dringender Wunsch hinzu, den eigenen Krper an den des anderen Geschlechtes mittels medizinischer Manahmen anzupassen, spricht man von Transsexualitt beziehungsweise von Transidentitt. Bisher wurde dieses Thema aus psychologischer, medizinischer, politischer und historischer Perspektive wissenschaftlich bearbeitet. Das Anliegen dieser Arbeit ist es, diesen interdisziplinren Umgang mit dem Thema durch einen soziologischen Blickwinkel zu erweitern. Hierzu sollen zunchst die bestehenden Anstze vorgestellt werden: So beschftigt sich der zweite Teil der Arbeit mit Transidentitt als Krankheit. So wird herausgearbeitet, wie sowohl im medizinischen als auch im psychologischen Kontext mit Transidentitt umgegangen wird, wobei diese beiden Bereiche eng miteinander verknpft sind. Dabei werden die Probleme der Symptomatik, Diagnostik und der Differentialdiagnostik diskutiert, die eher in den Bereich der Psychologie fallen. Die Medizin beschftigt sich vorwiegend mit der hormonellen und chirurgischen Umsetzung des Wunsches nach einem Geschlechtswechsel. Auch darauf wird nher eingegangen. Des Weiteren wird das Phnomen der Transidentitt aus historischer Sicht betrachtet, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf dem Wandel der begrifflichen Verwendung liegt. Im Folgenden wird Transidentitt aus juristischer Perspektive betrachtet. Hierbei wird das geltende Transsexuellengesetz vorgestellt. Dieses regelt alle Fragen der Namens und Personenstandsnderung und ermglicht ein Zustandekommen scheinbarer Paradoxien. So kommt
