El carcinoma hepatocelular (CHC) es uno de los tumores malignos ms frecuentes, representando el quinto tumor maligno ms frecuente en el hombre y el octavo en la mujer. Ms del 80% de estos tumores asientan sobre hgados cirrticos, siendo la principal causa la cirrosis de etiologa vrica (VHB y VHC), y constituyendo el CHC la principal causa de muerte en estos pacientes. El trasplante heptico es la mejor opcin teraputica disponible actualmente para los pacientes con cirrosis heptica y CHC. La hiptesis de este trabajo es que existen determinados factores pronsticos, fundamentalmente biolgicos e histolgicos, que van a condicionar los resultados a largo plazo de los pacientes con CHC tratados mediante trasplante heptico. Basndonos en la revisin de la literatura y mediante el anlisis de la experiencia del Servicio de Ciruga General, Aparato Digestivo y Trasplante de rganos Abdominales del Hospital 12 de Octubre de Madrid en el trasplante heptico como tratamiento de los pacientes con CHC tratamos de dilucidar esta hiptesis, estudiando aquellos factores de riesgo de recidiva tumoral que condicionan la supervivencia y la supervivencia libre de enfermedad.
