Se ha visto que el cncer acusa dificultades a las familias de estos nios, en un grado que puede ser disruptivo para su funcionamiento. En este estudio exploramos el camino que deben recorrer los padres y madres de nios oncolgicos desde el momento del diagnstico y durante todo el tratamiento. En este recorrido surge la inquietud de evaluar la salud mental de los padres y madres, en trminos de cmo la enfermedad del nio y la salud mental de sus padres podran estar relacionadas. Ya se sabe que los pacientes con cncer pueden presentar trastornos psicopatolgicos, y dado el vnculo entre padres madres hijos se abre una interrogante acerca de la posible presencia de psicopatologa en padres de nios con cncer. Este conocimiento podra abrir una lnea de investigacin en esta rea y tambin ser considerado dentro del tratamiento a las familias de nios que padecen esta enfermedad, con el objeto de mejorar la calidad de vida, tanto del paciente oncolgico como de su familia.
