El tratamiento del hepatocarcinoma se realiza hoy siguiendo las directrices del sistema de estadiaje BCLC. Sin embargo la BCLC por el momento solo contempla la monoterapia para cada estadio del tumor. Es prctica habitual en oncologa aplicar tratamientos combinados para la curacin o control de los diversos tumores y es lgico que esto se aplique tambin en el caso el hepatocarcinoma. La radiofrecuencia y la quimioembolizacion son terapias con eficacia demostrada en el tratamiento del hepatocarcinoma que adems se complementan y potencian mutuamente. En este trabajo se analizan los resultados obtenidos en una serie prospectiva de 103 pacientes, durante casi 10 aos, en los que ambas tcnicas se aplican de forma combinada con la particularidad frente a otros estudios de que dicha aplicacin se realiza de forma simultnea en un nico acto teraputico. Esta serie adems representa la realidad cotidiana de los hospitales muchas veces diferente de la de los ensayos controlados donde los criterios de inclusin excluyen con frecuencia a grupos de pacientes que en la prctica son y deben ser tratados.
