A final year Interior Architecture thesis project which explores the possibilities of the redesign of The New Zealand Film Archive through theory, design and research. The extremities of time relate explicitly to the opportunities and challenges that film offers in relation to the capture, recording, storage and preserving of time. Taking leads from the theoretical investigations of the project, the form and function of a computer hard drive is used to inform the holistic intervention which helps to compose the spatial relationships and generate the holistic tectonic. The three main characters of the intervention are the permanence of the library, the transience of the movie theatre and the vertical circulation which acts as a datum line and a transition zone where the inhabitant is in a state of flux between still and moving, conscious and subconscious, light and shadow, permanence and the fleeting.
