Die vorliegende Arbeit erwuchs aus Anregungen, die ich im Laufe der Jahre von verschiedenen Seiten sammeln konnte: Interesse an rententheoretischen Problemen weckte mein akademischer Lehrer an der University of Virginia, Prof. Edgar Browning, wahrend meines einjahrigen USAAufenthalts. Fortfuhren konnte ich die Arbeit am Staatswirtschaftlichen Institut der Universitat Munchen.
