En 1925, les Surs de la Charit de Qubec sinstallent PortMenier, sur lle dAnticosti, et fondent un couvent et un pensionnat, afin de dispenser un enseignement primaire aux enfants. Anticosti est alors aux mains dun riche propritaire franais, qui la vendra lanne suivante une compagnie forestire. De 1926 1973, les religieuses poursuivent leur uvre, alors que lle dAnticosti se destine lexploitation forestire. Au gr des vnements, elles seront confrontes un milieu trs diffrent du leur et devront constamment ngocier avec les administrateurs de la compagnie forestire pour assurer la prennit de leur institution. Cette tude porte donc sur luvre dune communaut religieuse installe au coeur d'un milieu insulaire domin par des industriels. Elle vise comprendre les motivations qui ont men vouloir instaurer et maintenir un couvent sur lle dAnticosti et analyse la gestion et le fonctionnement de l'tablissement. Cet ouvrage rvle une situation particulire, celle dune communaut religieuse tablie dans un village de bois , et lve le voile sur les relations employ/employeur qui se tissent entre les protagonistes.
