El libro hace una caracterizacin profusa de una parte de la biodiversidad de la Reserva Natural Biotopo Selva Hmeda Reserva Natural Privada de una extensin de alrededor de 2.000 hectreas. Est ubicada en el Sur de Colombia, dto. de Nario, municipio de Barbacoas. Cerca del 99% del rea est cubierta de bosque natural heterogneo en buen estado de conservacin. La Reserva est destinada a la conservacin estricta de la integridad ecolgica y la biodiversidad. Se estima que los bosques del rea protegida capturan alrededor de 6.720.000 toneladas de Carbono) por ao. El libro plantea un Plan de Manejo (PMA) que integra a los actores sociales locales (Indgenas y Afrocolombianos) con el capital natural, mediante estrategias de Sostenibilidad Socio Ecolgica y participacin comunitaria con base en 12 Programas y el cumplimiento de 5 objetivos: 1. Asegurar la integridad ecolgica y la biodiversidad de la Reserva Natural y su zona de amortiguacin; 2. Lograr mayor sentido de pertenencia y reconocimiento de los pobladores locales y potenciar su participacin en los programas del rea protegida;3. Fomentar el conocimiento cientfico bsico y aplicado de la biodiversidad.
