Las cartas que rene esta edicin, seleccionadas e introducidas por el albacea literario de Nin, abarcan las dos dcadas ms importantes de su relacin, desde febrero de 1932, fecha que marca el nacimiento de su apasionada amistad, hasta octubre de 1953, cuando la distancia les permita una visin retrospectiva ms objetiva. Adems, algunas cartas publicadas anteriormente de forma incompleta ;debido a la censura que, por respeto a su marido, Hugh Guiler, ejerci la propia Anas; aparecen en su versin ntegra, ya que la muerte de Guiler en 1985 acab con los problemas humanos que entraaba la publicacin de la correspondencia. Este apasionado intercambio epistolar da fe de una relacin cautivadora que, en palabras de Nin, es un pacto diablico entre dos escritores que comprenden sus mutuas vidas literarias y humanas, y sus conflictos.
