Existen numerosos algoritmos eficientes para encontrar reglas de asociacin, pero la mayora de ellos trabajan con bases de datos transaccionales o requieren dominios discretos. Pero en el mundo real existen numerosas bases de datos donde la informacin es numrica. La mayor parte de las herramientas que trabajan sobre dominios continuos simplemente se limitan a discretizar dichos dominios mediante alguna estrategia concreta para tratarlos, posteriormente, como si fueran discretos. Los mtodos de discretizacin desvirtan, en cierta medida, la calidad de las reglas obtenidas, al no tener en cuenta, durante el proceso de divisin de los dominios numricos, algunas de las medidas indicadoras del inters de las reglas de asociacin, como pueden ser, entre otras, el soporte y la confianza. En este libro se propone una herramienta que extrae reglas de asociacin en bases de datos numricas. El proceso de discretizacin, es decir, la bsqueda de los intervalos ms idneos para cada dominio numrico, se realiza en el propio proceso de bsqueda, haciendo uso de un algoritmo evolutivo.
