Under Fire With the Tenth U.S. Cavalry,Used
Delivery time: 8-12 business days (International)
Following the Civil War, legislation was passed in 1866 authorizing the enlistment of Black regiments, which led to the formation Of the Tenth Cavalry and other military units. The Tenth Cavalry was to have a long and distinguished history of military service, playing a major role in the Indian campaigns of the American West and in the SpanishAmerican War. When it was first published in 1899 in an age of Jim Crow laws and general discrimination against Blacks and other minorities Under Fire with the Tenth U.S. Cavalry received little attention. However, as interest in Black history increased, Under Fire emerged a minor classic and has been reprinted several times. It is the relative absence of material on Black soldiers and of material from enlisted men in general that gives Under Fire its significance. This edition, with more than one hundred illustrations and a new introduction by historian Richard Ellis, remains a valuable source of information for those interested in Black and U.S. military history.
