India is still home to a large number of undernourished population in the world. All most half of it's preschool children and reproductive age women have one or the other form of undernutrition. This study attempts at examining correlates of undernourishment on the ground of immediacy as well as their operational virtue towards modification. From a policy and programme intervention perspective, it is important to identify those correlates that are of immediate proximity to the phenomenon called undernourishment. It also argues to take into account other important socioeconomic realities in Indian context while measuring undernutrition rather than a dichotomous normative approach followed at present. The book looks at the interventionworthy correlates of undernutrition at individual as well as household level, the possibilities of making dichotomous measurement of undernutrition more meaningful and finally summarizing the findings in view of present intervention strategy of the both government and nongovernment origanisations. This book will come in handy for all those who are interested to study issues of undernutrition in India from public policy perspective.
