Numerosos estudios revelan que la produccin porcina familiar en los pases en desarrollo se ven amenazados cuando en sus sistemas de alimentacin predominan el maz y la soja. Por esta razn, uno de los grandes desafos que enfrentan los investigadores vinculados a la produccin porcina en Amrica Latina, es la obtencin de alimentos alternativos que contribuyan a reducir los costos de alimentacin, sin afectar los indicadores de performance y calidad del producto final. Conocer su disponibilidad, caracterizarlos qumicamente y evaluar tecnologas que mejoren su valor nutritivo, son algunos de los pasos que se llevan a cabo para este fin. En este libro se presentan los resultados obtenidos en un ensayo donde se evalu la calidad proteica de plumas de pollo luego de un procesos de hidrlisis con el fin de determinar si el producto presentaba las caractersticas adecuadas para ser utilizado como ingrediente en las dietas de cerdos en crecimiento.
