En el presente se aborda, en condiciones de secano semirido, el estudio del valor nutritivo de la planta de cebada consumida en pastoreo por el ganado ovino en diferentes estados de madurez, as como la validacin de diferentes mtodos para estimar la ingestin, digestibilidad y la seleccin que los animales ejercen sobre las diferentes estructuras morfolgicas de la planta. En dos experimentos sucesivos se valor la cebada en estado vegetativo, establecindose la carga ganadera ptima, el efecto del nmero de animales y de los das de aprovechamiento sobre la produccin de grano posterior, y la evolucin del valor nutritivo de la cebada a lo largo del periodo de pastoreo. En un tercer experimento se estudi el valor nutritivo de la planta de cebada en estado lechosopastoso del grano, determinando la seleccin, ingestin y digestibilidad de la materia seca consumida, los parmetros de fermentacin ruminal y la sntesis de protena microbiana. Finalmente, en un cuarto experimento se centr en el estudio de la cebada en estado vtreo del grano, con especial nfasis en su valoracin proteica.
