El aumento en la tenencia de gatos durante los ltimos aos ha producido un gran crecimiento de consultas de esta especie en la prctica veterinaria actual, lo que conlleva a una mayor demanda de informacin sobre las valoraciones hematolgicas y morfolgicas de las clulas sanguneas en condiciones normales. Debido a la carencia de dicha informacin, el presente estudio estableci por primera vez valores de referencia de algunas variables sanguneas para felinos domsticos de Costa Rica, a partir del muestreo de 52 animales de esta especie, 26 machos y 26 hembras, los cuales se encontraban distribuidos en los tres diferentes grupos de edades de la siguiente manera: 16 cachorros, 24 adultos jvenes y 12 adultos geritricos, clnicamente sanos procedentes de las provincias de Heredia y San Jos. Adems provee a los mdicos veterinarios, estudiantes y otros profesionales datos ms certeros, que reflejan la condicin fisiolgica normal de los animales en condiciones propias de manejo y ambiente.
