En especial, Navarro Rodrguez describe, con admirable lujo de detalles, el nacimiento y evolucin de poblados como Caripito, en los cuales se comenz a implantar un estilo de vida hbrido, venezolanoextranjero, que inevitablemente influy en la manera de ser de los venezolanos quienes all vivieron y en sus costumbres y actitudes sociales, todo lo cual sera heredado por sucesivas generaciones con un impacto multiplicador muy importante. Los procesos de urbanizacin llevados a cabo por las empresas estadounidenses y europeas en las reas petroleras promovieron una verdadera revolucin cultural en Venezuela. La orientacin del poblado o campamento, la aparicin en el medio rural del agua corriente, la escuela, la distribucin espacial de oficinas y viviendas, las casas de los empleados y trabajadores, todo ello obedeca en esos poblados a una planificacin que era relativamente nueva en la Venezuela de la primera mitad del siglo XX. Estos elementos y su significado sociolgico son debidamente explicados, casi por primera vez, en esta extraordinaria obra de Navarro Rodrguez, ayudado de mapas y maravillosas fotos.
