Sie gehren zu einer Vielzahl von Dorfgeschichten, welche Auerbach publizierte. Die Dorfgeschichte erhielt im Vormrz eine besondere Stellung bezglich des literarischen Lebens in Deutschland. 'Der Tolpatsch' und 'Des Schlobauers Vefele' informieren ber das damalig gegenwrtige Leben, hauptschlich in dem Dorf Nordstetten und seiner Umgebung. Die Dorfgeschichten haben eine leicht berschaubare Struktur und schildern das gewhnliche Leben der gesellschaftlichen Unterschichten im damaligen Deutschland. Sie sind in Novellenform verfasst, und es werden verschiedenste Motive angesprochen. Die Sprache lsst sich als einfach und durch Dialekteinschbe als realittsbezogen und anschaulich beschreiben. Auerbach, wie auch andere Autoren von Dorfgeschichten, wollten die Wahrheit ihrer Geschichten beglaubigen und bedienten sich hierzu exakter zeitlicher und topographischer Angaben und der Einbettung der Handlung in den sozialen und geschichtlichen Kontext. Obwohl Auerbach ber seine Heimat schreibt, fehlt ihm jedoch die unmittelbare Anschauung. So rekonstruiert er das Dorfleben aus einer zeitlichen und rumlichen Entfernung heraus, in einer poetischen Art und Weise.
