Die kumenische Bewegung des 20. Jahrhunderts wre nicht denkbar ohne den Religionswissenschaftler und Theologen Friedrich Heiler (18921967). Beheimatet im katholischen Reformkatholizismus und Modernismus wurde Heiler v.a. geprgt vom schwedischen Hochkirchentum eines Nathan Sderblom, von der liberalprotestantischen Theologie, von der stlichorthodoxen Kirche sowie von der greren kumene der Weltreligionen. Zeit seines Lebens auf der Suche nach einer wahrhaft umfassenden Katholizitt verwirklichte Heiler als Brcke zwischen den Konfessionen sein Programm der evangelischen Katholizitt. Im Anschlu an eine Biographie erfolgt auf der Basis handschriftlicher Korrespondenz die Untersuchung der Beziehung Heilers zu fnf katholischen Reformtheologen und Modernisten: J. Schnitzer, K. Adam, J. Bernhart, L. Fendt und H. Koch. Durch die Edition der Korrespondenz werden diese handschriftlichen Dokumente erstmals der ffentlichkeit zugnglich gemacht.
