Derzeit ist jedoch ein zunehmender Trend in Europa zu verzeichnen. Klassischerweise lassen sich hierbei drei Formen von Unternehmenszusammenschlssen unterscheiden: vertikale, horizontale und konglomerate Unternehmenszusammenschlsse. Im Folgenden soll der Schwerpunkt dieser Arbeit auf der Analyse vertikaler Unternehmenszusammenschlsse bzw. vertikaler Integration liegen. Diese liegen bzw. liegt vor, wenn sich Unternehmen, die auf verschiedenen Stufen des Produktions bzw. Handelsprozesses ttig sind, zusammenschlieen'. Beispiele sind die Integration von Produzenten mit den Vertriebsunternehmen ihrer Produkte oder die Integration von Produzenten und Zulieferern. Doch wie sollten derartige Unternehmenszusammenschlsse beurteilt werden? Um zu versuchen, diese Frage zu beantworten, knnen verschiedene volkswirtschaftliche Modelle herangezogen werden. Dabei wird in dieser Arbeit wie folgt vorgegangen: In Abschnitt 2 wird das Problem der doppelten Marginalisierung sowohl theoretisch als auch empirisch illustriert. Dies hnelt dem zweier monopolistischer bzw. oligopolistischer Hersteller vollstndig komplementrer Gter. In der Tat liegt den volkswirtschaftlichen Effekten nach kein Unterschied zwischen dem Markt komplementrer Gter (z. B. der Markt fr Baseballschlger und Baseballhandschuhe), die in keiner vertikalen Beziehung stehen, vor und demjenigen, der durch eine vertikale Beziehung (z. B. ein Markt fr Automobilmotoren und Automobilmontage) gekennzeichnet ist. In Abschnitt 3 wird vertikale Integration innerhalb der Marktstruktur vollkommenen Wettbewerbs im nachgelagerten Markt analysiert.
