In terms of legal evolution, the expansion of the role of the victim is occurring quite rapidly and probably represents the single greatest ''revolution'' in criminal procedure in twenty years. In most fields of law, one would expect such a new and dynamic set of laws to have a prominent place in the education of law students. Yet this has not proven to be true in the education of criminal procedure students. This book addresses this inconsistency by consciously focusing on the victim's role in the criminal process. It is divided into procedural stages, a structure which mimics conventional criminal procedure casebooks. However, do to its unique nature, almost none of the material contained in Victims in Criminal Procedure is found in those conventional casebooks, making it a valuable resource. Chapters include an Introduction to Victim's Role in the Criminal Process; Defining the ''Victim''; Victim Protection; Investigation; The Charging Process; Pretrial Matters; Pretrial Disposition; Trial; Selected Evidentiary Issues in Trial; Sentencing and PostSentence Matters; and Remedies, Review, and Rights.
