Viking Patterns for Knitting is the result of years of research by Swedish knitwear designer Elsebeth Lavold, who explored patterns of ornamentation found on Viking artifacts, such as swords, buckles, combs, and rune stones. Now, by means of clever knitting innovation (which makes it possible to start a knitted knot in the middle of a sweater), she has adapted these richly intricate knots and braids into gorgeous, fully modern garment designs. The 14 Knitting projects include a hooded sweater with interlaced halfhitches; a cardigan with delicate figureeight knots; an elegant tunic with serpentine ropework; and fatherandson pullovers inspired by rune stones. Sixty motifs are clearly presented in pictures, text, and charts, including the entire runic alphabet and a striking collections of Viking artifacts. Viking Patterns for Knitting is an adventure in Nordic forms with roots a thousand years deep.

I’m really happy with this book! The Viking patterns are gorgeous, and I think they'll make amazing gifts. The pages are well laid out, and the instructions are mostly clear. Just wish it had more projects for beginners!

Disappointed with the Print Quality
I was excited about this knitting book, but the print quality was a letdown. Some patterns were hard to read due to fading. The designs are lovely, but I expected better for the price. Hoping for a new print run soon!

Some Patterns Are Challenging
This book has some fantastic Viking-inspired knitting ideas, but I found a few patterns a bit too complex for my skill level. I appreciate the variety, though! Perfect for advanced knitters, but newer ones might need more guidance.
