Viscous Flow (MCGRAW HILL SERIES IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING),Used
Delivery time: 8-12 business days (International)
This text is intended to support the first year of study of viscous flow as a specialized branch of fluid mechanics. It deals mostly with flows of a fluid with constant viscosity and density. The first eight chapters present necessary conceptual and analytical fundamentals. Because the mathematical tools may not already be familiar to all students, the pace of the development is gentle. Analytical procedures are explained and fully illustrated, and most derivations are presented in complete detail. The concept of vorticity, and methods to make use of it, are strongly emphasized. Two chapters are devoted to exact analytic or numerical solutions of net NavierStokes equations. It is assumed that modern students of fluid mechanics will need to understand the potentialities, methods, and pitfalls of computational analysis. This need is addressed by careful description of a few simple algorithms, which are then illustrated in problems of growing complexity. Carefully debugged Fortran listings for many of the calculations appear in an appendix. Four final chapters deal at some length with creeping flow, laminar boundary layers, hydrodynamic instability, and turbulent flow. They all include some classic and then attempt to bring the subject quite up to date. In some cases, little more is done than to open a door, through which the student may enter into a personal exploration of ongoing research.material,
