Visualizing Boccaccio represents a new approach to the interpretation of Boccaccios classic book of erotic tales, The Decameron. In a comparison of selected tales from The Decameron with works by Cimabue and Giotto, fifteenthcentury manuscript illumination, a series of paintings by Botticelli, and Pier Paolo Pasolinis cinematic interpretation of the tales, Ricketts demonstrates how the juxtaposition of verbal and visual renditions permits new interpretations of each of these works.

The book arrived with some damage to the cover, which was disappointing. However, the content itself is quite engaging and packed with interesting visuals. I would have given it a higher rating if it weren’t for the poor packaging during shipping.

Great Study Material
I bought this for my art history class, and it has been really useful. The illustrations are beautifully presented, and the discussions around them are insightful. However, I wish there were more contemporary examples included. Still, great resource overall!

A Deep Dive Into Decameron
As a literature student, I found this book on illustrations of the Decameron fascinating! The range of artists from Giotto to Pasolini really offers a unique perspective on Boccaccio's work. The academic insights were thorough, and the layout of the illustrations was superb. Definitely a must-have for anyone interested in art history.

Mixed Feelings on Content
This book has some great illustrations and discussions, but I felt it lacked depth in certain areas. I was hoping for more comparative analysis between different artists. It’s decent for a casual read, but I expected a bit more from a Cambridge publication.
