Nach den Verwstungen des Zweiten Weltkriegs hatten visionre Staatsmnner wie Jean Monnet, Robert Schuman, Alcide de Gasperi und Konrad Adenauer erkannt, dass die Zukunft unseres Kontinents nur in der Schaffung eines geeinten, auf Frieden ausgerichteten Europas liegen kann. Das Thema einer einheitlichen europischen Whrung wird seit mehr als 30 Jahren diskutiert. Bereits im Jahr 1966 setzte sich die EG das Ziel, die WWU bis zum Jahr 1980 zu verwirklichen. Allerdings behinderte die Rezession der 70er Jahre die Arbeit an der WWU und der einheitlichen, gemeinsamen Whrung. Der Prozess wurde 1978 wieder aufgenommen, als eine engere Zusammenarbeit bei den Wechselkursmechanismen vereinbart wurde. Ziel der folgenden Arbeit soll es sein, im ersten Abschnitt den Weg vom gemeinsamen Binnenmarkt bis hin zu einer gemeinsamen Whrung zu beschreiben. In einem zweiten Schritt sollen anschlieend die Vor bzw. Nachteile einer gemeinsamen Whrung beleuchtet werden. Im dritten Abschnitt erfolgt eine Abwgung der Vor und Nachteile, sowie ein Ausblick ber die noch notwendigen Vernderungen der heute bestehenden EWWU. Im Mittelpunkt dieser Betrachtung soll die Schaffung eines einheitlichen Finanzraums und die Verwirklichung der Politischen Union stehen.
