Die zentrale Frage die in dieser Arbeit diskutiert werden soll ist: Welche Auswirkungen hatte die Entwicklung des Telegraphen auf die Wirtschaft? Um die Auswirkungen der Entwicklung des Telegraphen diskutieren zu knnen, wird in Kapitel 2.1 zunchst ein berblick ber die Entstehung der optischen Telegraphie gegeben. Es werden sowohl die Grenzen und Mngel des optischen Systems als auch dessen Nutzen aufgezeigt. Anschlieend, in Kapitel 2.2, wird die Entstehung der elektromagnetischen Telegraphie untersucht. Neben der Darstellung der verschiedenen Telegraphenapparate wird die Durchsetzung des MorseSystems analysiert. Im dritten und vierten Teil des 2. Kapitels werden die technischen und gesellschaftlichen Voraussetzungen untersucht, die die Entwicklung und Verbreitung des Telegraphen ermglichten. Dabei wird insbesondere die Nachfrageseite des Telegraphenmarktes beleuchtet. Aufbauend auf diesen Grundlagen befasst sich das dritte Kapitel dieser Arbeit ausschlielich mit den Folgen der Telegraphie fr den Welthandel und die Brse. In Kapitel 3.1 wird zunchst auf die Entstehung eines lnderbergreifenden Netzwerks als Voraussetzung fr den Welthandel eingegangen. Speziell die aufwendige Verlegung submariner Kabel und die Standardisierung der Systeme werden in diesem Kapitel erklrt. Im zweiten Teil des 3. Kapitels wird die
