Product Description Bildungsprozessen, die sich an der Auseinandersetzung mit Geschichte bzw. dem historischen Wandel von Kultur und Gesellschaft vollziehen, ist stets hohe Bedeutung beigemessen worden. Wahrend heute aber das Interesse an Geschichte im privaten und offentlichen Raum eine Konjunktur erlebt, gestaltet sich die Begrundung historischer Bildung vor dem Hintergrund der Debatte um Bildungsstandards und Kompetenzen als schwierig. Wo Schule immer starker von den okonomischen Bedurfnissen der Gesellschaft her gedacht wird, erscheinen Aspekte historischer Bildung in den ehedem geisteswissenschaftlich fundierten Fachern nachrangig. Doch ist dies gerechtfertigt? Die Studie nahert sich der Frage nach dem Sinn historischer Bildung in schultheoretischer Sicht. Sie beleuchtet, aus welchen Bedurfnissen heraus der Ruf nach historischer Bildung erwachsen ist und zeigt schliesslich mit dem Entwurf einer Theorie des Lernens an der Geschichte auf, welche Rolle diesem Lernen in der Schule heute noch zukommt.
