Die Wissenschaft jedoch lste sich bereits zu einer Zeit von dieser Vorstellung. Mehr als 2000 Jahre nach Demokrit, dem Erfinder des Wortes Atomos fand man heraus, dass auch der Mikrokosmos riesig ist im Vergleich zu jenen Teilchen, welche den Mikrokosmos formen. Im Rahmen der Nanowissenschaften versucht man, jene winzigen Teilchen im Nanometerbereich industriell zu verwerten. Sptestens mit dem Zeitpunkt, in dem erkannt wurde, dass Nanoteilchen ein anderes physikalisches und chemisches Verhalten darbieten als in groer' Form (auch hier sprechen wir von Mikrometern), wurde jene zunchst noch mystisch anmutende Wissenschaft schlagartig interessant, obgleich sie in ihrer ffentlichen Rezeption den Status des Rtselhaften noch nicht ablegen konnte. Jede neue Technologie braucht Kontrolle, die Nanotechnologie begegnet uns sowohl in der industriellen Produktion, als auch im Haushalt oder im Krankenhaus. Im Zuge von Risikobewertungen und Technikfolgenabschtzungen werden in dieser Arbeit gesetzliche Regelungen vorgeschlagen, welche die Handhabung von Nanomaterialien in einen rechtlichen Rahmen bringen. Gerade im Rahmen des ArbeitnehmerInnenschutzes ist es in hchstem Mae von Relevanz, die gesundheitlichen Risiken von Nanomaterialien genau zu analysieren und auf dieser Basis arbeitsrechtliche Bestimmungen zu konstruieren. Derartige Forschungen laufen sowohl auf innerstaatlicher, als auch auf europischer Ebene sowohl im Bereich des Chemikalienrechts, als auch im Medizinrecht, Konsumentenschutz und Arbeitsrecht. In dieser Arbeit wird zunchst ein Einblick in die naturwissenschaftliche Dimension der Nanowissenschaften gegeben, um in einem weiteren Schritt auf die bereits bestehende sterreichische und europische Rechtslage einzugehen, wobei auch Rechtsvergleiche
