Een van de oudste Middelnederlandse teksten die bewaard zijn gebleven, is een handschrift in de Koninklijke Bibliotheek te Brussel: 30673073. Het eerste stukje van dit handschrift komt uit de omgeving van meester Eckhart en behandelt de naamloze grond van de ziel, die een verborgen toegangspoort is tot de Godheid. De tekst heeft een verstillende en onthaastende werking. Hij maakt ruimte in de lezer, houdt diens concentratie op een ontspannen manier bij de Godheid en doet zo zijn recreatieve invloed op de geest gelden. De ziel wordt oog in het oog, oor in het oor, grond in de grond, wezen in het wezen. Wij ontsluiten de tekst in drie stappen: (1) de verkenning van zijn literairhistorische context, (2) de presentatie van de tekst in zijn oorspronkelijke gestalte en in hedendaags Nederlands, (3) het commentaar op zijn mystieke inhoud.
