Es stellt sich die Frage, welche literarischen Formen dem Roman seinen Charakter geben. Bei genauerer Betrachtung finden sich Elemente der Satire und der absurden Literatur. Einen wichtigen Anteil an der Beschaffenheit der Tonlage des Romans trgt auch der Schwarze Humor, von dem Atwood grozgigen Gebrauch macht. Besonders aber soll es hier um das literarische Werkzeug der Groteske gehen. Whrend sich nur ein kleiner Teil der Arbeit mit den erstgenannten literarischen Formen auseinandersetzen wird, soll es zum grten Teil um die Groteske gehen. Dabei sollen die wichtigsten Eigenschaften derselben herausgegriffen und auf den Roman angewendet werden, also z.B. das Auftauchen chimrischer und monstrser Wesen, der Einsatz von Sprachdekomposition und die Bedeutung des Schlusses. Spezielle Aufmerksamkeit soll am Ende der Arbeit den beiden Hauptprotagonisten des Romans, Jimmy und Crake, zukommen es wird eine ausfhrliche Charakteranalyse geben, die sich an weiteren wichtigen Elementen des Grotesken orientieren wird. Es soll dabei gezeigt werden, dass es sich bei den beiden Figuren um groteske Gestalten im traditionellen Sinne handelt.
