The book is a collection of essays reflecting on the pain of grief, as well as the glimmers of light and sources of strength through the darkness and depth of the Tar Pit. It includes beloved Bible verses and inspirational quotes as well as personal letters from the author to important people in Karin's life, her sons, her "girls," her parents, and the rest of the family, friends, and the community. The book concludes with the tribute Karin presented in honor of her beloved husband, Fred, at his funeral. We all enter the Tar Pit for different reasons, but we all must make our way through it to successfully navigate the grief process. The Tar Pit is one widow's path through the pit to her destination on the other side.
