Im Zentrum der Analyse stehen hierbei zwei Aspekte: Zum einen welchen Einfluss haben demo und sozigraphische Merkmale, wie Geschlecht, Berufsttigkeit oder Konfession auf die REPWahl und zum anderen welche Motive gibt es bei der Wahl der Republikaner? Die Untersuchung findet hierbei auf zwei Ebenen statt. Zunchst wird auf Studien eingegangen, die die Bedeutung der soziodemographischen Gren auf Bundesebene beleuchten, um so spter eventuelle Besonderheiten bei der REPWahl in BadenWrttemberg besser erkennen zu knnen. Analog wird mit den mglichen Motiven der Rechtswahl verfahren: Zunchst werden die drei bedeutendsten Hypothesen hierzu vorgestellt und anhand empirischer Untersuchungen auf Bundesebene diskutiert. Dies sind die berzeugungswahlthese, die Protestwahlthese sowie das so genannte Interaktionsmodell, welches beide Erklrungsmuster zusammenbringt. Die Ergebnisse der REP in BadenWrttemberg werden im zweiten Teil der Arbeit dahingehend berprft, inwiefern sie sich durch diese Muster erklren lassen. Die Republikaner in BadenWrttemberg eignen sich besonders gut fr eine genauere Analyse, da sie bei der Landtagswahl 1996 ein Novum schafften: Zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik gelang einer rechtsextremen Partei die Wiederwahl in das Parlament eines Flchenlandes.
