Newton is an accomplished writer, and this firstperson narrative is a skillful journey of a teenager turning into a woman, discovering love, and becoming aware of the way in which romance can affect the way many people make decisions. She offers an effective portrayal of a young woman who must manage her life while still discovering her world and the people in it.
