If we choose, we can become intimate with nature in our backyards and nearby parks, as well as in distant wildernesses. But wherever we find it, it has already found us. Our connections to nature are embedded in our evolutionary history and dwell within the fabric of our being. By developing an awareness of this, the author stresses, we can grow individually and societally toward a greater appreciation and understanding of nature's significance to our well being. About the Author Paul Sinrud Johnson is a photographer, writer and retired U.S. Forest Service scientist. He is senior author of the book The Ecology and Silviculture of Oaks.
