From School Library Journal reSGr 2The unlikely friendship between Taki the monkey and Baku the crocodile was broken in Arrington's The Heart of a Friendship (Pelican, 1997). Banished from his village, Baku now needs his former friend's help to find a cure for the ailing Mighty One, the leader of all crocodiles, and Taki decides to enlist the help of Queen Monkey. The bright, busy cartoon illustrations create a generic "jungle" scene and not only feature the story's characters but unmentioned curious onlookers as well. These extra birds and reptiles may raise questions for young listeners. The plot hinges on knowledge of the first book, and though readers are told that Taki's methods taught Baku about friendship and loyalty, they won't know why that is so. Even more, they're unlikely to care.Shara Alpern, The Free Library of PhiladelphiaCopyright 2002 Cahners Business Information, Inc. Product Description Can you help Pierre find the shy swamp bear? She's sure to be somewhere close by?While engaging in a lively conversation with his patient grandfather, Pierre searches for the secret spaces, hidden nests, and hiding places that might shelter North America's legendary black bear. But that's not an easy task in this swamp, where blossoms and trees, shown in magnificent cutpaper illustrations, create perfect camouflage. Review This is a wonderful book for intergenerational sharing and a great title to read as a unit introduction.
