Revolutionary Road (1961) es la primera novela del escritor norteamericano Richard Yates. Situada en Estados Unidos en la dcada de los cincuenta del siglo XX, relata la historia de un matrimonio, Frank y April Wheeler, que viven con sus dos hijos en un barrio residencial a las afueras de Nueva York. A pesar de que se enmarca en los aos de la mstica de la feminidad, una poca que destaca por el opresivo discurso dominante impuesto particularmente sobre las mujeres, la novela ofrece una visin muy subversiva de las identidades de gnero. Ante el malestar causado por el discurso, los dos protagonistas adoptan actitudes diversas. Frank opta por refugiarse en la fantasa y, por tanto, deja la realidad que le rodea inalterada, mientras que April, por el contrario, busca continuamente formas que le permitan alterar sustancialmente su situacin.
