Bereits seit den siebziger Jahren betont die Forschung Ingeborg Bachmanns besondere Vorliebe fur zyklische Komposition. Bezogen auf die Lyrik, fragt die vorliegende Arbeit erstmals eingehend nach den Grunden fur diese Affinitat, indem sie detaillierte Textlekturen, zyklustheoretische Gesichtspunkte, textgenetische Aspekte und den Blick auf Bachmanns Strategien der Leserlenkung zueinander in Beziehung setzt. Dabei meint der zugrunde gelegte Zyklusbegriff weniger ein Formprinzip, als vielmehr ein kombinatorisches Verfahren, das Einzeltexte in ein diskursives Verhaltnis setzt. Bachmanns Gedichtzyklen sind Spannungsgefuge aus Kontrasten und widerstreitenden Impulsen, die jenseits von Harmonisierungszwangen einen Sprachprozess permanenter Neu und Umakzentuierung inszenieren. Damit wird der Zyklus fur Bachmann zum Modus der (poetologischen) Selbstverstandigung und zum pradestinierten Diskussionsort ethischasthetischer Konfliktfragen vor dem zeithistorischen Hintergrund nach 1945.
