This classic study deals with characteristics of wind induced surface gravity waves in the North Indian Ocean. The author has established 60 years windwave climate implementing wave model 3gWAM. Experiments are presented for monsoon periods using IRSP4 satellite (Oceansat1) analysed wind fields. The performance of the wave model is evaluated by extensive validation with seastate observations. Potential applications of simulated seastate information for Research, Civilian and Defence sector are demonstrated with several practical case studies. It is a useful reference for Oceanographers, Meteorologists, Navigators, Coastal Engineers and Port Planners.
