Die steigende Bedeutung des Wissensmanagements zu Beginn der 90er Jahre ist insbesondere auf die Arbeiten von Nonaka zurckzufhren, dessen Ansatz in der Literatur als wichtige Grundlage der Wissensmanagementforschung angesehen wird und demzufolge die Basis fr eine Vielzahl neuer WissensmanagementKonzepte gebildet hat. Weitere wichtige Auslser waren die Entwicklung der Informations und Kommunikationstechnologien (IuK), die den strukturellen Wandel von der Industrie zur Informations und Wissensgesellschaft sowie die Globalisierung vorantrieben. Bechmann (2003) verweist in diesem Zusammenhang auf die zunehmende Komplexitt des erforderlichen Rechts bzw. Fachwissens in der Verwaltung, die neuen IuKbestimmten Arbeitsweisen sowie die schnelle Ausweitung und Vernderung des im Verwaltungsalltag erforderlichen Wissens . Zudem hatten auch die knappen ffentlichen Kassen sowie der gesellschaftliche Wertewandel und die vernderten Ansprche an die Verwaltung weitgehende Auswirkungen auf den ffentlichen Sektor. Die Wirtschaftlichkeit, Innovationsfhigkeit und Kundenfreundlichkeit rckten in der Folge immer weiter in den Mittelpunkt des Verwaltungshandelns. In der ffentlichen Verwaltung wurde bzw. wird dieses Konzept demgegenber erst in wenigen Behrden implementiert . Daher soll das Ziel dieser Arbeit die Untersuchung des mglichen Nutzens des Wissensmanagements fr die ffentliche Verwaltung sein. Im Focus stehen dabei die beiden Fragen: Welche Aufgaben und Wirkungen hat das Wissensmanagement in der ffentlichen Verwaltung in Deutschland? Und inwiefern kann das Wissensmanagement in der ffentlichen Verwaltung dazu beitragen, die vier strategischen Ziele des New Public Managements zu erreichen? Dazu erfolg
