In der allgemeinen menschlichen Vorstellung gibt es ein Bild von einem Deutschen oder einem Franzosen. Unabhngig davon, ob dieses Bild auf Stereotypen basiert, oder bestimmten Vorstellungen von Lebensart, Kultur und Geschichte unterliegt. Hinzu kommen ganz przise geographische und bauliche Zuordnungen wie der Eiffelturm, das Schloss von Versailles, oder im Falle Deutschlands, der Rhein, das Brandenburger Tor, oder die Berliner Mauer. Aber wer oder was ist ein Europer'? Ein Sdspanier ist ein Europer, doch ein Nordtunesier nicht, obwohl ein Sdspanier dem Nordafrikaner sicher hnlicher ist, als dem Lapplnder, der ja auch ein Europer ist. Warum endet Europa am Bosporus? Einerseits verluft die stliche Grenze Europas am Ural, und andererseits ist die Vorstellung, dass z.B. die Ukraine zu Europa, oder gar zur EU gehren soll fr manche absolut abwegig. Die primre und sehr alte Frage nach den geographischen Grenzen Europas ist in Zeiten der wachsenden Europischen Union nicht minder aktuell als vor mehreren hundert Jahren. Es sei mal dahingestellt ob diese Frage berhaupt beantwortbar ist, viel wichtiger ist die Tatsache dass Europa' eine gemeinsame Identitt und Definition des eigenen Charakters braucht, um als ein bernationales politisches Gebilde existieren zu knnen. Je mehr die Nationalstaaten ihre Souvernitt an die Europische Union abgeben, umso dringender wird die Existenz einer gemeinsamen, europischen' Basis, mit der sich jeder Einzelne identifizieren
