Product Description This is a story of an elevenyearold white boy growing up in the segregation era of the 1950's. Following an offensive incident with a black lady, his mother required him to spend his summer vacation working for the lady that he had offended. Each day his mother would send him across the railroad tracks that separated the black neighborhood from his own. The lessons he learned from this experience prepared him to deal with the everyday challenges that he would confront throughout his life. About the Author The author is a Marine Corps veteran, who spent his working career as an inner city firefighter after serving in the Marines. Most of his spare time is now spent camping and fishing. He is now able to enjoy the company of his grandchildren, who like most kids, wish they could have experienced the adventures that their grandfather had experienced as a young boy. Of course the author is now enjoying the best of both worlds, because he is able to experience the same fun and excitement that his grandchildren enjoy.
