Diese etwas irrefhrende Bezeichnung wrde allerdings nicht dem mit der Methode verfolgten Zweck gerecht werden, da Yield Management zum Ziel hat, den Gesamtumsatz der Betriebseinheit eines Dienstleistungsunternehmens zu optimieren und nicht die Ertrge zu steuern. Trotz einer Vielzahl bereits verffentlichter wissenschaftlicher Beitrge konnte man sich aber bisher auf keine einheitliche Definition von Yield Management einigen. Versucht man die Gemeinsamkeiten aller bisherigen Definitionsversuche zu erfassen, so kann man Yield Management folgendermaen definieren: Yield Management ist ein Ansatz zur integrierten Preis und Kapazittssteuerung mit dem Ziel, eine gegebene Gesamtkapazitt so in Teilkapazitten aufzuteilen und hierzu Preisklassen zu bilden, dass eine Ertrags oder Umsatzmaximierung erreicht wird. Zur Realisation dieses Anspruches dient der Aufbau und die Nutzung einer umfassenden Informationsbasis." In der neueren Literatur finden sich auch treffendere Bezeichnungen wie Revenue Management oder auch Profit Management fr das Konzept. Der Begriff Yield Management ist aber immer noch am weitesten verbreitet und deshalb wollen wir im Folgenden auch an diesem Begriff festhalten.
