A truly enjoyable indepth look at the basics of acoustic blues guitar! Learn the blues progression, blues chords, strum patterns, how to accompany a blues song, 6/8 blues, minor blues, power chords, moveable chords, barre chords, the blues scale, turnarounds, fillins, the capo, double stops, blues licks, bass line accompaniments, 12/8 blues, blues techniques, how to build and play an improvised solo, and fingerpicking blues. Also included are dozens of blues solos and 9 great new blues songs! In notation and tablature. The companion recording is in stereo playalong format and features the earthy blues guitar and vocal stylings of author Mike Christiansen. An instructional recording, it contains all of the examples found in the book. The instrumentation on the recording is rhythm guitar, vocals, and some of the examples have a lead guitar track.

This book makes learning blues guitar a blast! The exercises are engaging, and the author’s style keeps me motivated. I love the focus on improvisation — I feel like I can express myself more through music now.

Helpful but needs more examples
This blues guitar book has some good content, but I found it a bit lacking in practical examples. The theory is solid, yet some sections felt too brief. Still, it’s decent for self-teaching if you’re motivated.

Not what I expected
I was looking for something more advanced and was a bit disappointed with this book. It’s aimed more at beginners than I anticipated. If you’re a total novice, this might work but I found it too basic for my level.

Great resource for beginners!
I bought this 'You Can Teach Yourself Blues Guitar' book as a gift for my son, who's just starting out. The lessons are clear and manageable, plus the blues focus makes it fun! He’s already playing a few simple songs after just a week.

Solid instructional guide
As someone who’s been trying to learn guitar for a while, I found this book pretty useful. It breaks down the concepts nicely and has a good structure. A few sections could use more depth, but overall, a solid choice for teaching yourself.
