Die neuere Kindheitsforschung fasst die Kindheit nicht lediglich als Inbegriff von Reifungs und Entwicklungsprozessen, sondern als ein soziales Phnomen auf, welches sich historisch verndert. In diesem Sinne ist die Kindheit ein Konstrukt, ein kulturell verbindliches Wissen, das metaphorisch sozial reprsentiert wird. Als Menschen in Entwicklung" wird Kindern herkmmlich eine passive Rolle zugeschrieben. Dies ndert sich: Kindern wird zunehmend die Mglichkeit zur Mitkonstruktion der Wirklichkeit gegeben, und der von ihnen konstruierten Wirklichkeit, der kindlichen Eigenwelt, wird eine grere Bedeutung zugemessen. Stichworte, die eine aktive Rolle der Kinder kennzeichnen, sind Mitspracherecht, Eigenstndigkeit, Unabhngigkeit und Teilhabe. Der Anteil, den Markt und Medien bei der Konstruktion von Kindheit haben, darf nicht unterschtzt werden. Die Ergebnisse der vorliegenden Arbeit zeigen, dass Markt und Medien hinsichtlich der Zielgruppe Kind einen sehr ambivalenten Charakter haben. Einerseits ermglichen Markt und Medien Kindern neue Teilhabemglichkeiten an der Welt der Erwachsenen und gewhren ihnen in einem groen Mae Eigenstndigkeit. Andererseits zielen Medien gerade in Kombination mit dem Markt auf eine Abhngigkeit des Konsumenten Kind ab und versuchen dementsprechend Kinder zu instrumentalisieren. Es reicht fr eine Anerkennung der Stellung der Kinder in der Gesellschaft nicht aus, ihnen Kompetenzen zuzuschreiben und ihnen einen unreflektierten Umgang mit Medien zu erffnen. Es ist jedoch ein groer Unterschied, Kinder als Personen aus eigenem Recht anzuerkennen oder sie als Zielgruppe anzusprechen. Aufgabe von Medienpdagogik ist es, diese Ambivalenz zu vermitteln.
