Menschen mgen sich fr frei halten und annehmen, dass sie ihr Leben in jedem Augenblick ndern knnen, letztlich mssen sie erschreckend erkennen, dass der Mensch ...nicht frei ist, sondern der Notwendigkeit unterworfen, da er [...] sein Tun nicht ndert, und vom Anfang seines Lebens bis zum Ende denselben von ihm selbst mibilligten Charakter durchfhren und gleichsam die bernommene Rolle bis zu Ende spielen mu.' Fr Schopenhauer gehren die Menschen als physische Wesen zur Welt der Erscheinungen. Sie sind an die Formen der Erscheinung und damit an Zeit, Raum und Kausalitt gebunden. Schopenhauer resmiert, dass die Freiheit im Sein liegen muss, da sie im Handeln nicht aufzufinden ist. Es kommt alles darauf an, was einer ist: was er thut, wird sich daraus von selbst ergeben...' Die Schopenhauersche Argumentation der Freiheitsproblematik basiert vor allem auf drei Darlegungen: Erstens der Kausalitt, zweitens der unaufhebbaren Grenze zwischen Erscheinung und dem Willen und drittens dem angeborenen und unvernderlichen Charakter. Diese Arbeit leistet eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der Problematik der Willensfreiheit im Hinblick auf aktuelle Diskurse. Die angestrebte Aktualisierung fhrt im ersten Gedanken, auf der Grundlage der Erkenntnisse der modernen Naturwissenschaft, von der Kausalitt zur Wahrscheinlichkeit.
