Formen wie Magersucht und Bulimie sind hinlnglich bekannt und werden als Problem vor allem von jungen Menschen immer wieder in den Medien dargestellt, diskutiert und analysiert. Doch was tatschlich einen Menschen dazu treibt, sein Essverhalten so zu praktizieren, ist in den meisten Fllen ein hochkomplexes, multifaktorielles und kaum beschreibbares "System". In diesem Buch werden mgliche gesellschaftliche Bedingungen dargestellt, die allerdings auf keine endgltige Antwort schlieen lassen. Es wird vor allem theoretisch besprochen und anhand von Interviewstudien gezeigt, wie Gesellschaft wirken kann. Es stellt sich die Frage, was "normales" oder "unnormales" Essverhalten eigentlich bedeutet bzw. ob Essstrungen nicht als Lebensstrategien in unserer heutigen Zeit zu sehen sind und Essstrungen die "Krankheit der Normalitt" darstellen.
