In Einzelanalysen bekannter Werke der Theater und Filmgeschichte wendet sich die vorliegende Arbeit erstmals Konstruktionen mit Nebenfiguren zu. Zwischen Sophokles, Shakespeare und Strindberg werden neben den dramatischen Funktionen im Kontext von Handlung und Hauptfiguren auch typologische Kategorien der Randfigur thematisiert. Eine komprimierte Darstellung wichtiger Entwicklungspunkte der historischen Figurendramaturgie skizziert verschiedene Ausformungen psychologischer Figurengestaltung. Im zweiten Teil steht der Kinofilm mit seinen medientypischen Eigenheiten im Vordergrund. Ausgewhlte Beispiele der Filmanalyse zeigen die erweiterte Bedeutung der supporting characters fr die Erzielung vorrangiger Rezeptionswirkungen im Bereich von Affekten und tendenziell unbewusster Wahrnehmung. Das somit insgesamt aus vielen verschiedenen Anstzen gewonnene Instrumentarium soll anleiten, standardisierte Bauformen, Versatzstcke und individuelle Figurenpsychologie auch in schwierigen Konstruktionen der gruppendynamischen Verwicklung zu berschauen. Die bislang wenig beachtete Frage nach der Randfigurengestaltung erhlt damit eine optionale Diskussionsgrundlage.
